You can play this game with 2 to 10 players. In the story of William Tell, he has to shoot a apple off of his sons head with a bow and arrow. This is not going to get as crazy as that, sorry. Put an apple on someone's head and throw something that won't hurt if you miss, like crumpled up paper. The goal is to get the apple off by throwing something. That's how you play William Tell.
