You will need a big field and 4 planks (or bases) that make a square in the field. Make the bases spread out. You can play with 10 to 100 players. You'll want a even number of players because you need to split the players into 2 teams.
Once the players are split into 2 teams, one team goes out into the field, and the other makes a line at the first base. The team at the plank needs to face the pitcher. Then it is just a straight line behind the first person.
The team in the field chooses 1 person to be the pitcher. (Sometimes more than 1 person wants to be the pitcher. That's ok; they can switch out.) The pitcher's job is to stand 20 feet from the first person in the line. They will be facing each other. The pitcher will be holding a kickball, or a soft plastic ball. The pitcher will roll the ball towards the first person in line. When the ball is on home base, the first person in line will run up to it and kick it as hard as they can. Then they run as fast as they can forward to first base.
The pitcher and the next person in line do the same thing again. The first person moves to second base, the second person goes to third base, the third person goes to home base, and so on over and over again, unless you get a out or a foul.
Three outs make the team switch sides, the one in the line will go to the field. The one in the field goes to home base. Here are some ways you can get a out: If you kick the ball and it's caught mid-air, then it is an out unless it has already touched the ground. Another way is if while you are running and an opposing person tags you with the ball. If the ball goes out of the square when someone kicks it, it is a foul. If it is a foul they need to go back to home base. Three fouls make an out.
If the pitcher grabs the ball you have to stay on your current base. The pitcher cannot move from their spot, it has to be passed to the pitcher. There should be people on the team in the field guarding each base. You can also get out if the guard at the base you are going to has the ball. I may not have given every little detail, but those are the basics. That is how you play Kickball!
